Market Day in Alton

This Saturday it’s market-time again in Alton, Hampshire. The exclusive art and crafters team up with the farmers to create a vibrant, colourful, creative and tasty treat for visitors and locals. This is a lovely local event where it always seems as though the whole town, and surrounding villages, turn out to meet up, browse and buy.
I’ve been going to the craft market for 5 years, starting out with one little table with an array of crochet flower brooches. As I’ve explored and discovered other textile techniques, and often rediscovered those from many years ago, my stall has grown and a few years ago I invested in my own gazebo! This weekend will be the inaugural outing for my brand new gazebo – industrial weight (who needs the gym)? Well, me probably, but I’d rather be sewing!
It’s such a wonderfully friendly market and I love meeting all the familiar faces who have been stopping for a chat, and treating themselves or buying presents over the years. The sun was shining back in April (I missed the May market) and I’m keeping everything crossed for sunshine on Saturday.
So look out for a brand new, black gazebo (I think it’s black, but I haven’t unpacked it yet)! Come along and meet the makers and creators – there are very strict criteria about what can be sold at the craft market – nothing bought in, everything handmade by the seller – so, the quality is high. If you like markets and country towns, you’ll love Alton!
Do say ‘Hello’ on Saturday, and pop back here tomorrow for a sneaky preview of what I’ll have to offer.
