To Bolton and back again

Motorways and roundabouts dominated last week. Himself was off on some RICS business and I went along as chauffeur – and I’d heard about fabric mills ‘up north’!
Well, I wasn’t disappointed. A quick google search and an online chat with lovely Sooz from Sooz in the Shed blogspot and I knew exactly where to go. On Thursday morning, Himself had sorted out a taxi to take him to his ‘panel thing’ so I finished my hotel breakfast in a most leisurely fashion then kicked up my heels and headed off! In bright sunshine, I headed north up the M6 (I’ve never been this far north before – ever) and loved the feeling of freedom. I found Standfast very easily, according to Sooz’s instructions and tips and then had a super browse around, treating myself to some delicious Liberty fabrics and amazing silks. Not sure what I’ll be doing with them, but they’ll definitely be used up very soon.
I continued into Lancaster and had a mooch around. Shopping isn’t of any great interest to me, but charity shops and buildings are. I had a snack lunch at the impressive Lancaster Castle – which has until quite recently been a prison! A very spicy, homemade tomato soup gave me the inner warmth and energy I needed so then I headed back into Bolton.
I drove over 600 miles in 3 days. Arriving home on Friday, I needed to chill out so – rare for me – sat down and watched The Third Man, with Orson Welles then wandered out into the garden, to admire the Autumn light.
We stayed at Last Drop Village, situated on a hill to the north of Bolton and upon arrival, I held an impromptu photo shoot for my latest quilt commission …
then the big reveal – Daydream Believer …
I’ll do a fuller post about this amazing quilt after it’s been delivered.
It was a busy week and weekend (Craft Market at Alton on Saturday), so now it’s back to our normal routine and I’m loving every minute!
Enjoy the rest of your week
