Memory Quilts

Have you heard of Memory Quilts?  These are extremely special quilts that hold memories in every patch – baby clothes, wedding dress maybe shirts and ties.  A patchwork is created and quilted from your own fabrics.  Each quilt is unique, as are the memories they hold.

Here are some I’ve made …

Quilts for a whole family from baby and favourite clothes …

These quilts are very, very special and often attend family celebrations!

Quilts for a sister and brother …

The process …

It all begins with your fabrics – a bag full will make a good-sized quilt – with borders added to increase the size and frame the patchwork  …

then the patches have to be prepared – very carefully …

then they’re laid out in a pleasing pattern to balance the colours …

then I do A LOT of sewing – piecing the patchwork then quilting very carefully to preserve any secret pockets that have been included in the design.  Sometimes larger applique pieces are added and finally the binding – hand-stitched as always.
