Words about Workshops …

Thank you so much for coming along to my Patchwork & Quilting Workshops – your kind words are much appreciated and many of your makes feature on my Pinterest board here.

Val, You are an amazing teacher and you opened the whole new world of colour and endless possibilities.  Your classes are well designed and you have so much patience to explain everything. You have encouraged me to create something I am very proud of. Thank you so very much!  Kasia
Your colours are totally amazing and you’ve created an absolutely stunning quilt – the first of many, I suspect!  Val

I’m hardly able to believe that I made a beautiful little quilt in a weekend.
Oh dear, I was a real stresser about getting it right, wasn’t I, so I valued for your wonderful way of encouraging and teaching with your obvious love of sharing the joy (we shan’t mention all the rocky-road, ginger cookies and hot drinks that also smoothed the path).
My weekend quilt is beautiful, and I feel like I’ve been away on a relaxing retreat. Your studio is a gem, tucked away in the lovely informal garden; what a gorgeous space you’ve created to work in. Having a few of your completed quilts in the studio is an eye opener to the possibilities – your gold Luxor is luxurious.
I’ll be back in June for Applique & Freehand Machine Embroidery and more patchwork techniques, but in the interim I’ll be starting my corner to corner crochet project inspired by your Cornwall Aura blanket, and getting my fabric that I dug out of your stash embroidered, ready to bring along to make the tea cosy. And I thought I wasn’t crafty! But on the quilting front – Next stop – Luxor!
Big thanks for your warmth, skill and sharing.  Shelley
It was a delight to see you transform your quilt kit into a stunning, finished quilt in just 2 days.  I have SO enjoyed the weekend.  See you soon.  Val

I had been thinking about patchworking on and off for many years.  I think I was first inspired when I visited Michigan many years ago when my boys were little and I found the most beautiful shop in a small village stacked high with fabrics beautifully divided into colours and I thought “why don’t I patchwork?”  Boys being boys were not impressed at Mum looking through fabrics so I was quickly hurried along out of the shop, however the seed was sown.
It is only recently that I have found the time to start this hobby.  I looked on the internet and found a class run by Val.  Funnily enough the next week I was visiting Winchester market and saw a friendly lady selling quilts and cushions which, of course, I just had to stop and look at.  It suddenly occurred to me that this might just be the same person and sure enough it was so I immediately had a chat and signed up for my first class.  How exciting!
The class was held in Val’s lovely sunny studio bursting with fabrics and pre-sewn quilts.  There were two of us so not only did we learn of each other but we had Val on hand at all times.  Val is incredibly good at explaining and is also very patient.  I would say I am not a natural sewer and struggle with straight lines but Val is always there to assist and also to give you confidence – a “well done” really helps to give you confidence!  I completed my first quilt in a six week course and learnt different techniques on the one quilt.  I enjoyed the course immensely and am looking forward to my next project.  The seed is definitely bursting into a flower.  Thank you Val!   Linda
It’s been a pleasure to watch your sewing skills develop throughout the course and your quilt is really beautiful – such pretty colours and beautifully stitched.  I’m so pleased that you enjoyed making your first quilt and look forward to seeing you again very soon. Val

I met Val when she had a stall at the ‘Trout & About’ event in Stockbridge and then went to her ‘Open Studio’ event in September and signed up to a 6 week Patchwork Quilt workshop – it was Fabulous and I am utterly hooked. Val was so relaxed and helpful, there was no rush, lots of chat plus progress with patchworking, loads of encouragement and praise. Who could ask for more?
I then signed up for a further 3 sessions to learn how to make cushions, again fabulous. Now I must try everything I have learnt on my own but Val is always at the end of email (always replies promptly) and I will sign up for another session to learn more styles of patchwork when I have mastered doing some on my own.

Thank you so much Val for all your help and encouragement and getting me to make a quilt which is something I have always wanted to do but lacked the ‘know how’, and I feel that I will be able to tackle that on my own now. Look out for a picture of the completed item!!!  Mrs S
It’s been an absolute pleasure.  You have an amazing ‘eye for colour’ and once you had those fabrics chosen, there was no stopping you!  I’m so pleased you’ve developed a love of this art and enjoy creating stunning original pieces.  Well done!  Val

“I was always daunted at the thought of completing a quilt but Val helped give me the confidence and skills to do it and to do it well! I’m really pleased with what I’ve achieved. Thank you Val. ”  RB, Winchester

Beginner’s Sampler Quilt with 9-patch, half square triangle stars, log cabin & stitch & flip blocks, sashing, borders and binding – stunning!

“I have just finished a six week course for patchwork work for beginners. I have always wanted to make a patchwork quilt and when I retired I had the time. I went to a course because the books that I had did not make a lot of sense to me, as I little experience of sewing.
The course helped me to understand the techniques and allowed me the opportunity to make a sample quilt in a step by step method using my own sewing machine so that I gained confidence and skill as the weeks went by.
What I liked was the friendly and supportive way that I was taught and being given the time to ask questions.
The whole experience was fun and enjoyable and Val the tutor was great and her studio is a comfortable and welcoming environment.
I would recommend the course to anyone wishing to learn how to make quilts.”   Carol
I’m so pleased you enjoyed the course and took home a finished quilt – the first of many maybe!    Val aka Adaliza

“I have just completed my first quilt and it is all thanks to you.  I have had the best 6 weeks ever – great teacher, relaxed atmosphere and good company!  I have signed up for another course having discovered, thanks in no small way to Val, a love of this craft. Cannot wait to start the next project.  I would heartily recommend Val to anyone who wants to learn this art. Thank you, Val and see you later in June for my next adventure!” Sue B
I’m delighted that you enjoyed making your first quilt and am looking forward to your next project.  I’m so pleased you had such fun.  Val
“Just to say thank you so much for a fantastic first taste of patchwork and quilting today.
We hadn’t realised that we would be coming away with a finished article.  Our cushions will have pride of place in our lounges!!  The day certainly gave us a desire to do more later on.

Thank you for all your help and advice and we look forward to seeing you again.   Jan Q

“I would like to thank you once again for a most enjoyable and informative day last Saturday.  My family were unbelieving of my achievement in a day! which was all down to your teaching, the said cushion cover looks brilliant in my living room.”   Jan C

I’m delighted you both enjoyed the Log Cabin Workshop and were pleased with your cushions.  They were stunning – well done!    Val

“Thank you SO much for a truly wonderful afternoon. I enjoyed every minute and it was so nice to come away with some work, in such a short time, that I can put to good use. Can’t wait to do more.
It was lovely to meet you, hope to see you again.”       Sue
Great to meet you and I’m really pleased you enjoyed your introduction to Summer in the Park patchwork.  Val

“I thoroughly enjoyed myself using fabric scraps yesterday.  It was great fun| I was fortunate to have lots of attention and assistance as well as sustenance in the form of numerous of mugs of tea and delicious homemade cake!  I am very happy with this piece of work- need to decide whether to hang as it is or frame. Brilliant day thank you very much – even my husband is complimentary!”   Caroline D
I had fun too – just watching the piece come together with all your personalised touches – a little cottage with a bunny in the window, standing stones on the hill and whales in the sea to name but a few!  You created a very special picture at the Fibre Art Workshop and I’m delighted you’re both pleased with it.  Val
